About SolidRock Capital
Discover how our student-run investment training program uses simulated portfolios to teach real-world investing, financial literacy, and impact-driven finance.
Our Journey
Founded in 2025 by Sergei Zhdanov, SolidRock Capital began as a side project to gain financial knowledge. Early investing success sparked the idea of using markets as a force for good.
Today, SolidRock operates as a student-run investment training program that uses simulated capital. We do not manage real capital yet; instead, we channel rigorous fundamental and quantitative research into paper portfolios that mirror how a real non-profit hedge fund would behave.
We combine a value-investing lens with quantitative risk models, focusing on quality businesses trading below intrinsic value and portfolios that could one day compound real capital for decades—once we raise funds to support our charitable mission.
Our Purpose
Driving impact through finance rigor and accessible capital
Our Mission
To train the next generation of investors by running a simulated, non-profit-style fund today, and to ultimately convert disciplined, risk-managed investment returns into charitable capital that advances education, health, and opportunity worldwide.
Our Vision
To be a leading student-run simulated fund recognized for Wall Street-grade rigor today and, in the future, for managing real capital that drives transformative philanthropic impact.
Investment & Giving Principles
How our finance framework powers charitable impact
Research-Driven Simulations
We deploy fundamental and quantitative models in paper portfolios to capture simulated alpha, so students can practice the exact process we plan to use with real capital and targeted charitable giving in the future.
Long-Term Capital Mindset
By training students to think with a multi-year horizon in our simulations, we prepare them to one day manage real capital responsibly and provide stable, growing donation flows across market cycles.
Risk-Managed Learning
Our risk framework is taught in a no-capital environment, so students can learn from volatility and drawdowns without putting real money at risk—skills that will matter once we manage capital for donations.
Global Empowerment (Future State)
Our training and research today are designed so that, when we do manage real capital, we can support high-potential initiatives in education, health, social impact, and beyond—through the charities we fund.
Research & Risk Framework
How we build a disciplined, Wall Street-grade strategy inside a simulated, non-profit-style structure that prepares us for managing real capital in the future.
Quantitative Screens
Factor-based models surface quality, value, and momentum opportunities across global markets.
Fundamental Deep Dives
We study business models, cash flows, balance sheets, and management quality before making simulated allocations—mirroring the process we plan to use once we manage real capital.
Risk & Portfolio Construction
Position sizing, diversification, and drawdown controls are taught through simulations, so students can internalize how to protect a future donation engine through full cycles.
